Murray versus Ferrer: Who will outwit whom in Miami final?

The 2009 champion Andy Murray will play against third seed David Ferrer in the Miami Masters final on Sunday. Both of them united on Friday after losing the opening set and intending to win the semifinals in three sets.

The runner-up of 2012 Andy Murray suffered defeat in the opening set in a tiebreaker before defeating Richard Gasquet of France by 6-7 (3/7), 6-1, 6-2. On the other hand, Spaniard Ferrer ousted Tommy Haas of Germany by 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Murray regretted that he could have made the game easier on himself and could have played better when he was serving the first set but he did not do so. He added that he responded well while his opponent battled in the third set along with his movement. Murray told that he just had to consider his own side of the net. He is confident that he did a good job.

Former champion Murray lost the opening-set tiebreak against eighth seed Gasquet. This is how he crashed his first set of the tournament, but immediately corrected his mistakes and ruled the final two sets making his way to the Miami final for the third time.

It is worth mentioning that the only British champion in the Miami event’s history Murray has defeated Ferrer in six out of eleven matches in his career getting victory of five of the last seven. Previously, Ferrer had once defeated Murray in 2011 on a non-clay surface of Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

The 26-year-old Scot expects the match to be tough as he got an incredible competitor. He added that they train a lot during the game so that they become aware of each other’s games. Murray finalised the victory when an upset Gasquet struck the ball of serve on his forehand on the first of two matchpoints. He completed six aces and got victory by 75% of his first-serve points. He won just before one minute of completing two hours.

Murray started slowly, double faulted five times and sometimes battled with his serve during the game. Although Gasquet of France suffered a right foot trouble and won twice in 2013, he was doing his best to win the Miami title. Murray was happy to learn about his recovery after losing a set. According to him, the first set was difficult to lose as he had hit 20 winners and still lost. Hence he became conscious of cutting down the errors which he did very well. In the second set, he began to play correctly only after the half time.

Regarding Gasquet’s injury in his right ankle, he got the healing from his trainer during the second and third set. He admitted that his ankle was injured during Indian Wells. He added that Murray worked hard to get the match point during the eighth game of the final set which had set up a double match point. Murray won it without any loss of time.

Meanwhile, Ferrer twice met from the break down during the third set to kill the huge run of 15th seed Haas. Haas has shocked Novak Djokovic during the fourth round. Ferrer declared that he is happy to be in the final and he will do his best to win the match.

Incidentally, the two veterans Haas and Ferrer will celebrate their birthday on Wednesday and Tuesday respectively. Haas has defeated Gilles Simon and will clash with Ferrer. Haas won by 3-2 lead in the opening set.  Ferrer reduced his errors in the second set defeating Haas twice and made his way into the third set. His service game on Sunday will be crucial against Murray. He declared that he will do everything good and will definitely improve his first serve with his forehand to defeat his opponent.

Both Andy Murray and David Ferrer are champions who have won several titles in their career after a lot of wins and losses. Currently, they are going to play against each other in the Miami Masters final on Sunday. Murray has worked very hard to reach the final while Ferrer have notably reduced his errors in his previous sets. The winner of the Miami Masters final will definitely bring laurels to his career. We wish both of them all the best for the upcoming event.
