Virat Kohli scored century, guided a stunning 6-wicket victory over Australia

To the delight of India, Virat Kohli scored a 61-ball century to guide a stunning six-wicket victory for India over Australia in the sixth ODI in Nagpur on Wednesday. Shikhar Dhawan too scored a run-a-ball century to add to the runs. In fact, Kohli scored his fifth half-century as India levelled the seven-match series by 2-2. The final match of the series is scheduled to be played in Bangalore on 2nd November. Actually, India continued with an opening stand of 178 runs between Dhawan (100 with 11x4s) and Rohit Sharma (79) to establish a brilliant pursuit. No doubt, it was Kohli's heroics (115 with 18 fours and a six) that boosted the Indian innings. Kohli scored his half century off 31 balls, by smashing eight boundaries and a six. Kohli scored 56 runs along with Dhawan off 39 balls. Apparently, India was in a good position when Mitchell Johnson (2/72) hit a double blow in the 43rd over to enhance Australia's runs. Then, Suresh Raina (16) received a dubious caught-behind decision, while Yuvraj Singh was bowled out for zero as the runs dried up. Ultimately, India required just 48 runs in the last five overs. With Virat Kohli and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the middle, victory was not impossible. Kohli batted aggressively as he smashed the ball to all directions of the park for his 17th ODI ton. On the other side, Dhoni (25 not out off 23 balls) scored 61 runs for the fifth wicket as India marched into a stunning victory with 3 balls to spare. Notably, Dhawan struck his fourth ODI century following being dropped by Glenn Maxwell off James Faulkner on 19. No doubt, Dhawan's 178-run score with Sharma improved the previous record of 176 at Jaipur, which was the highest opening partnership for India against Australia in ODIs. Remarkably, Sharma and Dhawan started with a bang but soon runs started to flow as the duo excellently used the fielding restrictions. As Dhawan settled down, he began to hit the ball all over the park. Undoubtedly, his hunger for big scores is popular, mainly against Australia, when he struck 187 on his Test debut in Mohali. In addition, Dhawan completed 1000 runs in ODIs when he scored hundred in his 24th ODI. It was the ideal response to the great total set by Australia. Previously, following India invited Australia to bat, Shane Watson as well as captain George Bailey scored magnificent centuries to post a challenging 350 for 6. Further, Burly Watson hit 13 fours as well as three sixes to score 102 off 94 balls. On the other hand, Bailey impressively scored a career-best of 156, which is his second ODI ton in 115 balls. Of course, his fantastic innings consisted six sixes and 13 fours. At the end, these two batsmen added the second-highest third-wicket score of 168 in the ODIs against India to assist the visitors record their 4th 300-plus total in the series.
