Delhi Daredevils banged Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets in IPL6

Delhi Daredevils banged Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets in sixth edition of Indian Premier League at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur on 1st May Tuesday.

One blast of innings is often adequate to confiscate a game away from the rival in the Indian Premier League. A bowler less frequently takes so many crucial wickets in the four overs he's allowed to play that a game is as good as buried. But it is seldom that acts of brilliant fielding prove the deciding factor in a match. This is exactly what has happened in the Delhi Daredevils versus Kolkata Knight Riders match.

The house-full 45,000 spectators were filled with ecstasy when Gautam Gambhir won the toss. When the first ball of the match was bowled by Irfan Pathan and was pulled authoritatively to the midwicket fence by Manvinder Bisla for a boundary, the spectator's fears seemed to have commenced. When the successive ball was targeted to Bisla, it struck him on the pad. Gambhir headed for a suicidal run, but was easily outpaced by Irfan, who scraped the ball in his follow-through and thrashed the stumps down at the striker's end. Bisla tried an ambitious inside-out shot off an express delivery from Umesh Yadav that shifted away a touch and flattened his off stump.

The disciplined Delhi Daredevils bowlers confined the Kolkata Knight Riders to a modest 136 runs. Nothing was anticipated to be going with Kolkata Knight Riders' way as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals against the Daredevils. Knight Riders were placed under pressure from the start after their skipper Gautam Gambhir was run out in the first over by Irfan Pathan without even facing a ball. This was Gambhir's third consecutive failure in this year's IPL. Umesh Yadav bowled a disciplined delivery and targetted the ball to Bisla (4) who missed the shot and was bowled out. Both the KKR openers Bisla and Gambhir had failed to add much to the scoreboard. Shahbaz Nadeem hit to oust Eoin Morgan (10) from the pitch when the Kolkata batsman was caught by Yadav immediately after Morne Morkel extended out-of-form Yusuf Pathan's misery. Morkel dismissed the Baroda batsmen, who failed to handle the delivery and edged it. The ball went pretty high and was pulled out of the air by Yusuf's brother Irfan. Ben Roehrer timed his leap perfectly at a point to take a stunning one-handed catch off Jacques Kallis to leave the Kolkata innings in tatters at 50 for 5.

Rajat Bhatia and Sumit Narwal--both of whom play their cricket inDelhi, mounted a recovery bid. Narwal (23) took his opportunities and Bhatia (26 not out) was as composed as ever, pushed Kolkata's score to 136. For most teams that would be a walk in the park, but Kolkata's bowling line-up claims the ability to overwhelm the best of batting line-ups.

David Warner hauled his half-century in 35 balls which included six 4s and three sixes. Warner, along with Unmukt Chand (37) took on the KKR bowlers as the Delhi Daredevils resurrected from early loses to record their second consecutive victory in Raipur. Warner and Chand scored 95-run partnership for the third wicket, which built the platform for the victory. However, Chand fell back in the 17th over to Brett Lee. At this point, Delhi required only 15 more runs to win. Warner then accepted the responsibility to lead the Daredevils to home.

Delhi Daredevils suffered early blows when skipper Mahela Jayawardene and Virender Sehwag were sent to the pavilion in the powerplay.
Jacques Kallis took the first wicket of hard-hitting Sehwag (17) by bowling a length ball which theDelhi batsman edged to the fielder in the slip position.

Skipper Jayawardene was the subsequent man to walk back to the pavilion when he edged a Laxmipathy Balaji delivery to the slips.

Unmukt Chand struggled to lay bat to ball against Sunil Narine, but hung on for dear life and collected runs while David Warner took control of the chase. With 110 runs needed from 95 balls, all Delhi needed was that one of their batsmen to bat long. Warner did that, scoring up an impressive undisputed 62 (41b, 5x4, 3x6) to see his team home.
