“Rafa will come back. He has no fear of the (hard court) surface”- Toni Nadal

Rafael Nadal’s uncle and coach Toni Nadal insisted on Thursday that the French Open champion will bounce back from his shock first-round exit at Wimbledon in time for the US Open next month.

The 27-year-old suffered his earliest exit when he was ousted by Belgium's Steve Darcis on the very first day of Wimbledon. His straight-sets defeat against 135th ranked Darcis gave birth to the speculation about the effect of the clay-court season on an earlier injury of inflammation of the knee cap, which sidelined Nadal's 2012 campaign.

But Toni has insisted that the 12-time Grand Slam champion will ease himself back into his training system in time for the US Open, which is scheduled to commence on 26th August.

Toni Nadal assured at the ATP tournament in Stuttgart that Rafa will return. He has no fear of the hard court surface and has nothing more to lose. Toni informed that currently Rafa is doing physical training, but no racquet workouts. He stressed that the break is essential. He has played adequately.

According to Toni, Nadal, who is at home in Mallorca, will come back to the tour on 5th August when he plays at the Montreal Masters, subsequently Cincinnati, which commences on 12th August before the US Open in New York.

Before crashing into the Wimbledon, Nadal had clinched the final of all 9 tournaments he had entered since his return from a 7-month injury discharge. Remarkably, he won 7 of them, including his 8th French Open title and the Masters in Indian Wells.
