Sudirman Cup: Jwala Gutta has quitted from the tournament due to unavailability of a suitable partner

Indian shuttler Jwala Gutta has quitted from the Sudirman Cup which is scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur from 19th to 26th May. According to reports, it is speculated that the decision may have been taken due to unavailability of a suitable doubles associate, both women's and mixed.

The 29-year-old didn’t get any suitable partner in either doubles or mixed doubles in the recent past. She parted ways with Ashwini Ponappa and V Diju respectively, after the London Olympics in 2012.

Jwala paired with Prajakta Sawant in the India Open last month and both of them ultimately crashed out in the first round itself. Her performance in the mixed doubles category was also unimpressive with a second-round departure for her and then partner Diju.

She has struggled hard to find a partner even if she remains India's best doubles player. She captured a world championship medal but her growing commitment to the Telugu film industry has been quoted as a reason for younger players not to pair up with her. She is supposed to make her acting debut in a Telugu film.
