19-year Old Arrested for Threat-mail to BCCI

A few days ago, BCCI received an e-mail, which allegedly threatened the Indian Cricket team which is currently on a tour at West Indies. The mail created some uproar, forcing BCCI to seek probing into the matter by the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), for a better look into the matter. However, the probe ended with the ATS finding a 19-year old to be the one to send the mail to BCCI

A first-year student of Bachelor of Sciencenamed Brij Mohan Das, from the Shantipur area at Morigaon district in Assam, has been arrested by police officers who is believed to have sent the e-mail. BCCI evidently received the mail on August 16, which stated, to eliminate Indian Cricket team. This is however, not the only team which have received death-threats and hate, over the internet, in recent times. Officials have mentioned similar e-mails were sent to other cricket boards of other countries, who are currently investigating the matter with immediate effect.

Das’s involvement in sending the mails to other cricket boards, cannot be entirely ruled out. However, he is still guilty for sending the single mail to BCCI about threatening the Indian Cricket Team to life, from his own laptop is enough to put him behind the bars.

The investigation was carried out after the police registered the case under sections 506 (II) and 509 of the Indian Penal Code and section 7 of Criminal Law Amendment Act 1932. The Police, eventually with the help of the IP address traced out the location where Brij Mohan was. He was taken into custody, on Tuesday 20th August, along with the device he used to send the mail. Das was taken to Mazgaon Court, but his motive for the crime still remains unclear.
