2022 Winter Olympic Mascots Revealed

While Tokyo is gearing up for the 2020 Summer Olympics to be held in Japan, with their out of the box technologies to blow the minds of its spectators; 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing, China have already revealed its mascots. Tokyo have been waiting on the opportunity to welcome the world to its overwhelming techniques to introduce a new Japan, constituting of luxurious stay and robots for the better game viewing experiences.

With the hype of Tokyo Olympics next year not quite neutralized, Beijing unveiled the two mascots for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics at Shougang Ice Hockey Arena in the Chinese capital on Tuesday in a ceremony. The ceremony held at China, Mayor Chen Jining described the significance of the name of two mascots Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon.

Bing Dwen Dwen, the Olympics mascot, an adorable looking Panda, where the word ‘Bingstands foricewhich shows purity and strength, while ‘Dwen Dwensignifies sincerity, liveliness, and health. Bing Dwen Dwen’s face is circled up with colorful lines, the line directly depicts skating tracks and 5G technology. Panda, considered to be Japan’s national treasure was chosen accordingly, but it did not satisfy all as some even opposed it for lack of creativity while choosing a panda.

On the other hand, the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic mascot is Shuey Rhon Rhon. Based on a traditional red lantern for the Chinese Lunar New Year falling just around the same time of the Winter Games, Shuey Rhon Rhon is intended to create a warm and cheerful atmosphere around. The word ‘Shueymeans snow in Chinese, while ‘Rhon Rhonstands for inclusiveness and integration. The word together signifies, that all human living in harmony in a civilized society through communication among one another. Shuey Rhon Rhon also wears a yellow scarf around her neck and yellow doves around her head and a traditional Chinese paper cutting.

From more than 5,800 submissions, submitted from 35 countries, these two mascots were selected to be the face of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will mark, China hosting both the Summer and Winter Olympics, one being in the year 2008 and the other yet to happen in 2022, as no other country have had the opportunity to do so in the history of Olympic Games.
