Well known actor and an avid ‘Chelsea’ fan Abhishek Bachchan says that India has sufficient talent to do excellent in football. The major drawback is the absence of infrastructure and support for the game. He added that it is his dream to see Indian football team in the World Cup finals.
The 37-year-old actor declared in an interview that he will do everything to popularise this game. He believes that India has the right talent but it should get correct infrastructure and support. Once the public starts supporting football, the sports authorities will be compelled to upgrade the infrastructure. He thinks that recently Indian youth is preferring more football than cricket. India can always set a goal to become an eminent football nation by 2020.
Last evening Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan and cricketer Virat Kohli in New Delhi launched the inaugural charity match between Bollywood actors Indian Cricketers in Jawaharlal Nehru stadium on 30th March 2013. They named the match as ‘Playing for humanity’ and unveiled the jersey and the trophy. This occasion marked the launch of ‘Virat Kohli foundation’.
Abhishek will be the leader of the squad for the ‘All-Stars Football Club’ versus Virat’s ‘All Heart Football Club’. This charity match will raise money for a charity organisation known as ‘Magic Bus’, currently working for underprivileged children. The actor is not sure of the presence of his little daughter Aradhya and his actress wife Aishwariya during the match to cheer him up in Delhi.
Abhishek Bachchan disclosed that Virat has a greatly accomplished team who is going to take care of the competitiveness while the Bollywood stars will take the responsibility of entertainment. The actors will encounter the best sports stars of India with whom they would like to be competitive.
The Bollywood actor’s star-studded 28-member squad will consist of Raj Kundra, Ranbir Kapoor, Leander Paes, Arjun Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Marc Robinson, Shabir Ahluwalia and others. Cricket star Kohli’s squad will comprise Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh and others.
Nostalgic Abhishek Bachchan revealed that he was a basketball player in his childhood. He had won inter-school basketball championship during his school days.
Abhishek narrated that a group of football fans came up with an idea of ‘Playing for humanity’. Then Bunty Walia and GS Entertainment started and conceptualised this great idea. Finally they decided to play together mainly to popularise football in India and raise money for the charity.
