An Unnerving Chase and an Unexpected Exit

Billions of dream ended, as India crashed out of World Cup, fighting the Kiwi’s bowling brilliance and finally falling short of the finals. Old Trafford stadium witnessed a destructive bowling strategy of the New Zealand and lone fightback from Ravindra Jadega trying hard to take India to the finals, as he kept a mutual dream alive almost throughout the game just falling short of the finish.

The semi-final clash between India and New Zealand on its first day was washed out due to rain, while New Zealand batsmen were able to play for 46.1 over posting 211 on the board with the loss of 5 wickets. After the rain interrupted the game heavily, the match was called off for the and resume the next at the same ground where they left off. On 10th July, both the teams resumed the game from the exact position with captain Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor already settled at the crease. However, in the remaining few overs, New Zealand only managed to score 239 runs with the loss of 8 wickets.

India was determined to ride into finals, but New Zealand was not letting them go without a fight. Kiwi’s bowling attack throttled the Indian top order, the trio of Rohit Sharma, K.L Rahul and Virat Kohli, who have so far taken the definite lead while batting suddenly crumbled, as Matt Henry and Trent Boult took 3 wickets, as India just managed to score 5 runs in the initial 4 overs. Dinesh Karthik and Rishab Pant at the crease were clearly finding it hard to keep their wickets intact, and soon Matt Henry scalps Karthik in the 10th over as India were at just 24. However, Pant and Hardik Pandya started to settle for a partnership, but their partnership was short lived and consumed too many deliveries. M.S Dhoni at no.7 was also unable to provide an impact. The lone man Ravindra Jadeja, came out all guns, almost taking the game away from the Kiwi’s as he danced the down the pitch hitting the kiwi bowlers scoring 77 of just 59 balls but fell just short of taking India to a victory.

India made their World Cup exit at the semi-finals as New Zealand came out with mind-blowing spell to crash the top order that had been holding the entire batting line-up together throughout the tournament. Though Ravindra Jadeja’s heroics at the end, a sensational effort to not just steer the game in India’s direction but to hit back at the critics sure kept the hope alive keeping the spectator hooked to their dream.
