Archery World Cup Final: Deepika Kumari clinched her third successive silver medal

Deepika Kumari clinched her third successive silver once again following being pipped by Olympic champion Ok-Hee Yun of Korea in Archery World Cup Final at Paris on Sunday.

As per the latest information received, the 19-year-old began magnificently with three flawless 10s and led by 3-1. But a shocking time lapse in the 3rd set, enabled the Korean to sneak past the Indian for a 6-4 victory in the showpiece annual event held following four phases of World Cup. In fact, this was the 2008 Olympic champion's 2nd gold medal in the World Cup Final after 2010. On the other hand, for Deepika, it was her second defeat to Yun as the Indian once again failed to overpower the Korean challenge.

It is well known that in the final of the Shanghai World Cup in May, an unfortunate judging error by the Ranchi girl had resulted in a shocking defeat, while last month the 2008 Olympic champion had won with flying colours in Wroclaw stage. Moreover, following a splendid first set, Deepika shot two 9s and one 10 to tie the 2nd.

Leading by 3-1, Deepika was expecting the gold medal as she commenced with 10-9 in the third set. However, while proceeding for the third arrow, she did not have ample time to shoot to draw a blank as her rival levelled at 3-3. Subsequently, Deepika shot a poor 8 to concede the 4th set as the Korean led by 5-3.

Remarkably, Yun required a tie in the 5th set to deny Deepika her maiden World Cup Final gold medal, while the Korean held her nerves to push the Indian to 29-29 to win her second gold in the tournament.

Particularly, Dola Banerjee is the only Indian to have won a gold medal in the showpiece event. Anyway, this was Deepika's 4th successive World Cup Final appearance. It is well known that after ranking 5th in 2010, Deepika captured silver medals in 2011 and 2012.
