Top racing driver Narain Karthikeyan of India relished victory in the fourth round of the AutoGP series at the Silverstone circuit following a one-minute post-race penalty for an illegal pitstop was awarded to the race leader Kevin Giovesi. He clocked by 1:46.286 ahead of novice Kevin Giovesi and Super Nova teammate Vittorio Ghirelli. The 36-year-old changed teams before the round after suffering several technical and operational problems in his first three rounds which compromised his performance.
In fact, currently Narain has shifted to Super Nova Racing team and is driving along with the ruling F3 Champion Vittorio Ghirelli after driving with reigning F2 Champion Luciano Bacheta as his teammate at Zele Racing team. Earlier, Narain raced with Super Nova in the A1GP championship.
The racing driver’s transfer in teams made him more confident, proved to be more advantageous as evident from his top position in the time sheets in the practice sessions and of course qualified at the pole position. Commencing from the pole, Narain spearheaded the race but eventually, lost it in a tight battle with Kevin Giovesi who also had began the race from the front-row.
Giovasi’s team of Ghinzai Motorsport made an illegal pitstop due to which the driver was penalized and dished out a one-minute post race penalty. As a result, Narain was propelled to the top of the podium. Due to the penalty, Giovasi ultimately finished the race third.
Actually, the team change proved to be ideal for Narain. His teammate Ghirelli finished behind him in second and at present the team pilots the points table with 150 points. It is well known that Super Nova team have been champions last year and it will definitely prove to be advantageous for Narain to be part of a winning team. The subsequent round of the series is scheduled from 13th to 14th July, 2013 at Mugello in Italy.
