Badminton World Championship: Saina trounced Olga to crash into the prequarter final

World number 3 Saina Nehwal of India trounced her second round rival world no.66 Olga Golovanova of Russia by 21-5, 21-4 to crash into the prequarter final of the Badminton World Championship at Guangzhou in China. The match lasted for 23 minutes as Saina marched into round 3.

Saina will lock horns with Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand who has already ousted Jamie Subandhi of USA by 21-12, 21-9 in her 2nd round clash. Saina leads her Thai opponent by 5-0 in head to head. The duo had met recently at the Thailand Open 2012 where Saina won by 24-22, 21-11.

Previously, rising Indian shuttler PV Sindhu overcame an aggressive Kaori Imabeppu of Japan to haul her place in the 3rd round of the women's singles competition at the World Badminton Championships at Guangzhou on Wednesday.

The 10th seeded Sindhu, who won the Malaysia Grand Prix in May 2013, had to struggle for 1 hour and 11 minutes to overpower unseeded Imabeppu by 21-19 19-21 21-17.

On the other side, it was dooms day for India in the men's doubles competition as Arun Vishnu and Tarun Kona bowed out in the 2nd round. It cannot be ignored that the unseeded Indian duo fought tooth and nail for 40 minutes before falling down by 15-21 21-13 17-21 to the pair of Alvent Yulianto Chandra and Markis Kido of Indonesia, who are seeded 15th in the competition.
