Biggest shocks in the World Cup till now

After days of games, the FIFA World Cup 2018 is turning out to be more exciting than expected. Some of the biggest names have underperformed, and the World Cup is rightly turning out to be a race between the underdogs. Here are the four biggest shocks witnessed yet.

  • Russia’s superlative performance

Despite not having to go through selection rounds, Russia is giving a superior performance in the tournament. Having 6 points and holding their position as the table toppers, Russia surely means business this time.

  • The Viking clap echoes

The Iceland team, consisting of dentists, film makers and chefs made more echoes than the top favourites. Although the possibility of qualifying to the Round of 16 is thin, they have surely impressed everyone in their first World Cup appearance.

  • England and Belgium making waves

Not many people were expecting much from these two teams when the World Cup started, but they turned the tables. Both the Group G members have six points from 2 games, and two members, one from each team are in the Golden boot race. While Harry Kane(England)  is dominating the World Cup with 5 goals, Romelu Lukaku (Belgium) is placed second with 4 goals.

  • Argentina and Germany’s poor show

Argentina is definitely not living up to the mark, having just one thin chance to make things right. With one point from 2 games, they are at the bottom of Group D table, which was not expected at all. Germany, on the other hand suffered a defeat from Mexico, even though having 26 shots in total. They were on the brink of exit, until Tony Kroos gave them a much needed win against Sweden. However, according to most experts, Germany won because of better luck, with the Swedish team not getting a deserved penalty, and Kroos’s singular talent.
