If ‘The World is our Playground’, then Football should be considered as a game that has made the world, a much better place to share the joy, through this very game. Football has been worshipped like Cricket and Tennis, and other major sports on several occasions, with fans and players pouring in from across the borders to contribute to the sport with immense respect. Over the years, a player like; Diego Maradona, Pele, Ricardo Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi have created history, keeping the fans and spectators of the game seated and overwhelmed.
The most important thing about this sport is to represent one’s nation in front of a bigger audience, try and to make one’s countrymen proud. However, to figure out the best among these players and teams FIFA came up with official ranking in 1993 for the first time, to determine the best of all. Many nations have been fighting to be featured on the list or acknowledged and hopefully make it to the top. Brazil is a world-famous football team, boasting skillful players for decades and has 5 World Cups, 4 Confederation Cups, 9 Copa America titles to their name. But their country name was still not up to the mark in a decade on the FIFA rankings, despite several years of hard work.
However, after being on the 3rd spot last year, below, Belgium and France, on this year’s rankings, Brazil advanced to the 2nd spot. After their 9th title win in Copa America this year, Brazil crossed the current World Champion France to secure the 2nd spot, just lagging behind Belgium while France managed to stay at the 3rd spot. England, Uruguay, Portugal, Croatia Colombia, Spain, and Argentina chronologically took the rest of the top 10 places. While the Indian team under Igor Stimac’s supervision slumped down 2 spots to 103 from their previous rankings.
