Chess To Make A Comeback At 2022 Asian Games

A great news for the chess fanatics! The 64 square board game is all set to make a comeback at the next edition of Asian Games in China’s Hangzhou after Olympic Council of Asia took a decision to reinstate the sport in its games programme scheduled from September 10-25 in 2022.

An official confirmation was passed by president Sheikh Ahmad al-Fahad Al-Sabah on the development to World Chess Federation president Arkady Dvorkovich when the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) General Assembly met in Bangkok. The OCA president mentioned that it was his distinct pleasure to inform that the sport of Chess has been officially included in the Sports Programme of the Games. ‘Chess Base India’, the Twitter handle quoted Emil Sutovsky, Director General of FIDE, “It took some massive work by FIDE, and in 2022 we are getting back!” Earlier, the chess was a part of Asian Games programme at the 2006 edition in Doha and 2010 in Guangzhou. The 2010 Asian Games’ chess event was held in Guangzhou Chess Institute, Guangzhou, with four individual and team events. China won three out of the four possible gold medals and finished first in the medal table.
