Croatian Experience to take India Further

Former Croatian player and coach, whose gameplay is still remembered, Igor Stimac has been taken by All India Football Federation’s executive committee to coach the Indian Football team. Igor Stimac was part f the golden era of Croatian Football team when in 1998 FIFA World Cup, Croatia beat Romania and Germany in the qualifier to reach the Semi-Final but suffered a 2-1 loss to France, existing with a Bronze in the 3rd place. Later in his career he opted to become a coach starting as a manager for Hajduk Split in 2001. On July 5 2012, Stimac was appointed as the manager of Croatian Nation Football team. Managing Croatian National team, Igor Stimac was at his best, and Croatia was excelling in an international level. Under his management Croatia qualified for 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, though not a very good season from the team but the team was ranked as no.4 in FIFA Rankings. He has guided players like Ante Rebic, Alen Halilovic, Dario Srna, Daniel Subasic, Ivan Strinic etc. On the other hand, Indian National Football team has been excelling under the leadership of Bhaichung Bhutia and most recently, Sunil Chettri, who is the only Indian Footballer to play 100 international matches and Indian team reached their highest FIFA Ranking at 96 under his leadership. Igor Stimac’s playing and 18-years of coaching experience will help the Indian team to take the matter further to international level. Stimac’s first challenge lies in the Kings Cup in Buriram, Thailand where the Blue Tigers are to play Curacao in their first match on June 5.
