Djokovic and Murray win their opening matches of ATP finals

Serbian player Novak Djokovic and Brit ace Andy Murray have recorded easy victories in ATP finals. Considering that the stature of these two players who will now be pitted against each other, more number of fans are eager to have a glimpse at the best two from the top three players of the world. Ranked as No.1, it was Djokovic’s show all the way right from the onset against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga with 7-6 (4), 6-3 as part of their Group A encounter on Wednesday. Third-seed Murray registered an even more exciting win after being 3-6 down in the first set.

However, it didn’t too long for the Briton to win against Tomas Berdych with 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the end. ATP tournament is the another bigger one apart from being the last one as well with which all the top eight players of the world end their season. Fourth seed Rafael Nadal had to pull out of the tournament because of injury. Another interesting match in Group B fixture involves six-time champion and Swiss legend Roger Federer who will be playing at the O2 Arena.

After saving three break points against the giant French player, there was no looking back for Djokovic since then. In fact, the Serbian top player has dominated the rest of the match with his serves and rallies. Meanwhile, Tsonga ended up being at the receiving end as there was nothing much left for him to do against a determined player like Djokovic. It all began ever since he broke the serve of Tsonga to gain the lead. During an earlier match, it was another testing match for Murray who was not in the best of his elements initially.

Murray, who won the U.S. Open championship earlier this year, has displayed his playing skills in front of the home crowd in Britain for the first time since winning his first major title two months ago, failed to convert 10 break points before finally finding his game and beating Berdych.

“He served very well on a lot of the break points, especially in the first set. He started to miss a few more first serves (in the) second and third sets when I had my chances,'' Murray said. “That sort of helped me get into the point and find a way of being aggressive, using some variety, whereas some of the time in the first set he just completely overpowered me.''

Murray couldn’t capitalize upon any of the seven break chances he got during the first set, and then wasted three additional chances after being in the fourth game of the second set. After the completion of third, he whacked the ball out of anguish, but even that did not make it to Berdych’s side of the court.

“Unfortunately there was just, well, small details that just decided today,'' said Berdych, who had wasted three break points in the previous game. ``Just hit a forehand return, and it was just like small out. And who knows, it could be 2-1, early break after winning the first set.''
