Easing Past the Tame Windies

The dangerous Windies team seemed amiss of the ‘danger’ factor for quite some time now, with the big-hitters of the team not being able to perform in an untamed way. From World Cup 2019 to the T20 series against India, West Indies were unable to give their best on the field, while India eased past them with Kohli and Shreyas Iyer leading the batting line-up and Bhuvneshwar Kumar single handedly managing the bowling.

Sheldon Cortell gave a challenging start to the tournament by scalping Shikhar Dhawan (2 out; 3b) in the very first over of the innings. India needed to create a steady partnership with one opener gone, and Virat Kohli (120 out; 125b; 14X4, 1X6) took the opportunity to lead the team. Rohit Sharma (18 out; 34b; 2X4) too succumbed after a few over. However, with Shreyas Iyer’s (71 out; 68b; 5X4, 1X6) exceptional batting, Kohli and Iyer cruised to the 250 mark within 46 overs. With combination of experience and young talent India registered 279 on the board after 50 overs with loss of 7 wickets

In the 2nd innings West Indies needed to hit big in order to match up to the target. They did have a decent start as Evin lewis took the lead and Chris Gayle backing him slowly. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was on fire, starting his run for the night, firstly scalping Chris Gayle (11 out; 24b; 1X4) in the 10th over. With Kuldeep Yadav’s brilliance the top order failed to create an impact, as only Evin Lewis (65 out; 80b; 8X4, 1X6) contributed something with a concrete fightback. Bhuvneshwar Kumar coming back with his magical spells with commendable help from Mohammed Shami, India easily tamed the West Indies restricting them at 210 ceasing all of their wickets within 42 overs. India secured a steady lead, and plans to continue the unbeaten record after still World Cup loss still searing open fresh wounds.
