England thrash India at Lord’s

After losing the first Test match in Edgbaston, India were desperate for a win. Things did not look to good as the first day of play was washed out owing to rain. The match got off to a start on day 2 as the English captain won the toss and chose to bowl first. It seemed like the rain-interrupted match would inevitably end in a draw but England and James Anderson had other ideas. They bowled the Indians out for a lowly 107, Anderson picking up 5 wickets. When they came out to bat, it looked like they’d suffer a similar fate as wickets fell at a regular interval. However, they went on to score 396 for the loss of 7 wickets before declaring on day 4. The mammoth score on a difficult pitch only made India’s problems worse.

The story was not very different in the 2nd innings as India lost wickets at regular intervals. At 61/6, India looked neck-deep in trouble having lost almost all their recognised batsmen, including skipper Kohli. India needed a partnership to hold off the English bowling and a lot of assistance from the English weather, if they were to draw the match. Unsurprisingly, the Indians were bowled out, again, for 130 this time. This time, Anderson and Broad took 4 wickets each. England won by an innings and 159 runs.

With this, England took a 2-0 lead in the 5 match test series, leaving India very little room for a comeback.
