Brazilian retired professional footballer Pele, who is regarded as one of the greatest players of all times is currently suffering from a series of health problems. Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pele is currently 79 years old and is not capable of walking properly due to a serious hip problem. Pele’s son Edson Cholbi Nascimento, known simply as Edinho in a recent interview said, “He’s pretty fragile in terms of his mobility… and that makes him suffer a kind of depression. Just imagine, he’s the ‘King’, he was always such an imposing figure, and now he can’t walk normally. He gets very shy, very embarrassed about that”. He added, “He’s doing a bit better than when he was in a wheelchair recently, but he still has a hard time getting around”. The legendary player is also suffering from minor depression due to his immobility issues. Pele has been ill for quite sometimes now and visited the hospital quite a number of times in the recent years. He was also unable to recover fully from a hip operation and it left him dependent on a walker. The Brazilian number 10 hardly leaves home now and his public appearances have become a rare event. The 79 year old suffers from acute kidney problems as well and survives only on a single kidney. Pele was last seen at a public event last year in April.
