Germany will be much relieved following their 3-2 win over the Netherlands in the Euro 2020 qualifier. Joachim Loew’s new-look line-up survived a severe test in a see-saw battle against the Dutch.
A refurbished Germany raced into a 2-0 lead in Amsterdam courtesy Leroy Sane and Serge Gnarby. However, the hosts struck back with a second half header from Matthijs De Ligt before Memphis Depay scored the equalizer on the 63rd minute mark. The Netherlands seeking a winner over the visitors desperately, put the four time world champions under immense pressure. But, a 90th minute decisive goal from Nico Schulz was enough to seal the deal for the Germans. The 25-year old Hoffenheim midfielder, tapped home a loose ball after a tireless Sane had taken the defence with him on a run into the box. Loew took a harsh decision after he mentioned that the Bayern Munich trio Thomas Mueller, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels had no future in th German squad.
On the other hand, Eden Hazard scored the opening goal as he celebrated a century of caps for Belgium in a 2-0 victory over Cyprus. However, the World Cup finalists Croatia stumbled to a 2-1 defeat in Hungary.
