The ICC Men’s World Cup might have ended in an upset, but ISSF World Cup given India a chance at improvement and the athletes have been nothing short of amazing. Bringing home pride in almost every match they step in, India has been leading at front, with 14 Gold medals. The recent being Abhishek Verma clinching the Gold medal in the men’s 10m air pistol event of ISSF World Cup.
A lawyer by profession, Verma, shot some serious blows, scoring 244.2 on Thursday. Abhishek Verma have already earned his 2020 Tokyo Olympic berth. The other person the second and the last Olympic berth is Saurav Chaudhary who has, five ISSF World Cup Gold medal this year only. Chaudhary has also been a participant in the men’s 10m air pistol event, where he managed to secure the Bronze medal, acquiring a score of 221.9. The event’s Silver medal was claimed by Turkey’s Ismail Keles, who missed out on the Gold, by just 1.1, scoring 243.1 in the final event.
Both Verma and Chaudhary had earlier scored 582 and 584 in the qualification round for the final. But in the final, Saurav Chaudhary’s game was overshadowed by a much superior Abhishek Verma, who claimed the Gold with immense determination.
India 14 Gold medal tally have been contributed from several events of the World Cup. In Women’s 10m air rifle category, Elavenil Valerivan held on to the 1st gold of the season. Following suit, Sanjeev Rajput claimed the silver medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions final, which allowed one Olympic quota for India as well.
