“I know if I'm at my best I can win again”- Saina Nehwal

Saina Nehwal revealed on Friday that there was "doubt" in her mind during her campaign at the Southeast Asian circuit last month but clarified that the much-needed 6-week break will assist her to regain fitness and return strongly at the World Championship next month. The World no.3 has been suffering from a lean patch for the last nine months as a result, she was unable to win a single tournament.

During the last three tournaments like Indonesia Open, Thailand Open and Singapore Open, Saina had failed to proceed beyond the semi-finals, but it doesn't seem to worry her much as she believes that she can still win titles.

Saina expressed that it doesn't concern her that much because she knows if she is at her best, she can win again. She was not glad with what was happening with her. It is true that some small injuries can irritate her. One can't be at her best when one is injured. When one was tapping her knee, there were doubts in her mind.

She elaborated that these were doubts like if she can train or if she can give 100%. It is so good that she is taking physiotherapy right now. She is taking good note, not thinking about what happened and giving her best again. She got this 6 weeks break after a long time. She was not glad with her fitness. She required that break but when she got that break, her toe got fractured. At the beginning of the year, she had a knee injury but now she is okay and hopefully should emerge with good performance in the World championship. In addition, the Olympic bronze medalist was excited about the Indian Badminton League too, which is scheduled to continue from 14th to 31st August.

Saina asserted that this is a grand initiative by the IBL to promote the sport. Truly, everyone was playing well today. It is good to witness interest growing in badminton, even in school there is progress. They wanted these things to happen. She can see sporting facilities here. These things should occur in all schools across India. She added that when she was studying, they just had a large ground. They used to play everything there. Currently, it is easier for kids to select sports because of improved facilities.
