India vs England: 1st Test (Day 1) Review

After winning the T20 series and going down in the ODI series, team India looks resolute to avenge the humiliation they faced last time around. The English captain elected to bat first having won the toss. It seemed to be a good decision as England looked steady at the crease, commanding the first two sessions of the games. Joe Root seemed to be in devastating form and was joined by Keaton Jennings on the other end. India did manage to dismiss Jennings only to have Jonny Bairstow join skipper Root for another important partnership.

England had only lost 3 wickets before tea. They continued to play well in the last session of the day butViratKohli had other plans. A brilliant piece of fielding from the Indian captain followed by a direct hit finally managed to break the partnership, sending Joe Root (80) back to the pavilion. An array of dismissals followed and all of a sudden, the English were in deep trouble. From 216/4 the English could not hold off the Indian bowlers. The session and the day finally came to an end. The scoreboard read, “285/9”. India had owned the hosts in the last session of the day, gaining control of the match. India could have bowled them out, had Dinesh Karthik held on to Curran’s catch in the last over of the day.
