India vs England: 3rd Test (Day 3) Review

A well-deserved century from the Indian skipper put the hosts in cruise control in the 3rd Test in Trent Bridge. After dismissing the English team for a mere total of 161, the Indians came out to bat, leading by 168 runs. The openers gave the visitors a decent start before being dismissed. Out came the Indian captain, who put together a decisive partnership with Pujara on the other end.

Ben Stokes eventually got the wicket of Pujara (72), breaking up the all-important partnership between the two. Virat however was rock-solid on the other end and looked determined to get to triple digits after being dismissed for 97 in the first innings and narrowly missing out. A useful knock of 29 from Rahane and a quick-fire 52 off 52 balls from HardikPandya helped the visitors put up 352 runs for the loss of seven wickets before Kohli decided to declare the innings.

With more than two days of play still left, India gave the English a record target of 521 runs. Being played in difficult English conditions, the target looks almost unreachable, as the hosts came out to bat. The day ended without any more incidents as the English openers Cook and Jennings made sure that they were not going to lose an early wicket. At the end of day’s play, England had put up 23 runs on the board without a loss, still needing 498 runs to win.
