Indian Archer’s on a Gold Rush

Indian athletes have been making our country proud on almost every occasion where they seem to step foot into. From Hima Das to, PV Sindhu, to Sai Praneeth, to Manasi Joshi, sports persons are bringing medals and making the whole country proud of their achievements. Out of all these golden names, two more archers Markoo Raginee and Sukhbeer Singh clinched another gold in the World Archery Youth Championships in Madrid, Spain.

India received another first time gold medal, now from its junior U-21 compound mix team who narrowly crossed the line, beating Switzerland for 152-147 in the final of the championship. The duo offered their bests, despite the Swiss team almost catching up to them, Raginee and Singh stayed just ahead of them, but the slight margin was enough to secure the gold medal.

Among the 3 sets, in the first one, the Indian team shot two 10’s, and thus ending the first round for 38-36. In the second one, they improved with three 10’s, finishing up with 37-39. Despite the Swiss team looking dangerous, especially in the last round, when they inched 1-more point closer to the Indian side, narrowing with a score of 37-36. Accumulating the scores, India won in straight sets with 5 points lead, which was enough to snatch title.

With Raginee and Singh’s partnership acquiring a Gold medal, India is still awaiting another medal, when Komalika Bari Clashes with Japan’s Waka Sonoda, for recurve cadet U-18 women’s gold. As AAI’s suspension by World Archery, comes into effect after this event, India won’t be competing under the nation flag, for the time being.
