IPL 2019 – Eliminator Young Prodigy Shines in Desperation

Both teams were going in full throttle to clench the place at Quarterfinal 2 against Chennai Super Kings. Sunrisers Hyderabad opened their batting as Delhi Capitals opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Openers Wridhhiman Saha and Martin Guptill were building a partnership, with Guptill taking the lead, but Delhi soon managed to get a breakthrough in the 4th over, as Wridhhiman Saha (8 out; 9b; 1X4) succumbs to Ishant Sharma’s bowling attacks, SRH at 31-1 after 3.1 overs. Manish Pandey kept the board ticking, while Martin Guptill (36 out; 19b; 1X4, 1X6) kept attempting for big shots, until in the 7th over, Guptill departs, as Hyderabad stood at 56-2 after 6.3 overs. Skipper Kane Williamson and Pandey started a slow partnership for the third wicket but Delhi was not letting Sunrisers build a strong partnership as, Keemo Paul strikes for the 1st time as, Manish Pandey (30 out; 36b; 3X4) walks back to the dugout. Kane Williamson (28 out; 27b; 2X4) fell in upcoming 2 overs as SRH were at 111-4 after 16 overs. Vijay Shankar and Mohammed Nabi put out a quite a cameo to add few big runs, at 147 however, Vijay Shankar (25 out; 11b; 2X4, 2X6) departs, Trent Boult gets a wicket in the 19th over. In the 20th over Mohammed Nabi (20 out; 13b; 3X4, 1X6) gets out in the middle as SRH were at 160-6. Vijay Shankar was literally restricted by Keemo Paul, as Rishab Pant hits the stumps at non-striker’s end, and Vijay Shankar unfortunately loses his wicket amid confusion. Rashid Khan (0 out; 1b) gets out in the next ball as well, as Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 162-8 after 20 overs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t get the desired start as Delhi Capital openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan seemed to take the game away from them as they scored 55 runs in the Powerplay alone. However, Hyderabad manages to get a break in the 8th over, as Shikhar Dhawan (17 out; 16b; 3X4) gets stumped, DC at 66-1 after 7.3 overs. Captain Shreyas Iyer (8 out; 10b; 1X4) falls prey to Khaleel Ahmed’s attacks in the 11th over, and the big break though arrived in the same over for SRH as, set batsmen Prithvi Shaw (56 out; 38b; 6X4, 2X6) succumbs to Khaleel Ahmed, as DC stood at 87-3 after 11 overs. As young Rishab Pant came to crease he seemed unstoppable as he started dealing in boundaries. In the 15th over, Rashid Khan delivers 2 wickets to baffle Delhi Capitals, as Colin Munro (14 out; 13b; 1X4, 1X6) at first, and at the end of the over, Axar Patel (0 out; 3b) fails to create an impact. Sherfane Rutherford (9 out; 12b; 1X6) hits a maximum and walks back at the start of 19th over. Young prodigy Rishab Pant (49 out; 21b; 2X4, 5X6) put out a great show at the hour of need but fell just 1run short of his half-century as he departed at a crucial moment, when DC needed 5 runs from 7 deliveries. Amit Mishra (1 out; 2b) gets out in the last over, for obstructing the field, as Khaleel Ahmed tries to hit the stumps, and Mishra obstructs the ball and the stump. However, Keemo Paul (5 not out; 4b; 1X4) hits the 5th ball by Ahmed for a boundary to take Delhi Capitals a little bit closer to the title.
