IPL 2019 – Match 13 : Curran Ensured Punjab’s Home Victory

Mohali stadium witnessed another thrilling fight of their home team as Delhi Capitals choked to a 14 runs defeat. At the start of the game, Delhi won the toss and chose to field first. In the first innings, Punjab seemed to be struggling, putting up a total of 58 runs with the loss of 3 wickets after 7.1 overs. Sarfaraz Khan 39 off 29 balls (6X4) and David Miller 43 off 30 balls (4X4; 2X6) showed a glimpse of a promising score but the duo was cut short by Sandeep Lamichhane when Khan departed, Punjab stood at 120 for 4 after 13.5 overs. David Miller also was caught by Rishab Pant soon after. However, Mandeep Singh was undefeated till the end of the inning adding 29 to the scoreboard off 21 balls. The last 4 wickets also fell in short intervals putting a final score of 166 after 20 overs.

At the first ball of the second inning, Punjab made their intentions very clear by dismissing Prithvi Shaw. But Shikhar Dhawan (30 out; 25b; 4X4) and captain Shreyas Iyer (28 out; 22b; 5X4) recovered Delhi putting up a partnership of 61 runs off 7.2 overs, after which Iyer was bowled by Viljoen. Shikhar Dhawan was also restricted within 11 balls. However, Collin Ingram (38 out; 29b; 4X4, 1X6) and Rishab Pant (39 out; 26b; 3X4, 2X6) put out quite a show adding 62 runs for the 4th wicket, soon after Pant was bowled by Shami. From 144 with the loss of 4 wickets, Delhi scored 8 more runs losing all their wickets in next 17 balls, falling 14 runs short to Punjab. Sam Curran delivered a tricky spell taking 4 wickets, amongst which a commendable hat-trick, sparing only 11 runs. Sam Curran was awarded the Man of the Match at end of the game for his brilliant performance.
