IPL 2019 – Match 14: Rajasthan Wins Their First Two Points of the Season

After 3 consecutive losses, both teams were in a rush to score their first points of the season. Rajasthan Royals won the toss and chose to field. Bangalore had a promising start with Virat Kohli (23 out; 25b; 3X4) and Parthiv Patel (67 out; 41b; 9X4, 1X6) putting up 48 runs in the powerplay itself. As Shreyas Gopal came to bowl for his first over, RCB Skipper Kohli succumbed to his spells. Parthiv Patel kept adding runs reaching 50 with just 29 balls but struggling to build a partnership with AB De Villiers (13 out; 9b; 2X4) and Shimron Hetmyer (1 out; 9b), both of whom were again restricted by Gopal. Marcus Stonis (31 not out; 28b; 2X4, 1X6) gave some hope by building a partnership of 53 runs with Patel for the fourth wicket, but Patel soon was caught by Rahane, trying to hit a six over long-on. Moeen Ali added 18 more runs off 9 balls in the last two overs settling to a final total of 158 with the loss of 4 wickets at the end of first innings.

Rajasthan Royals had a massive start with Ajinkya Rahane (22 out; 20b; 4X4) and Jos Buttler (59 out; 43b; 8X4, 1X6) hitting a 60 runs opening partnership in 7.3 over, until Chahal came to bowl and Rahane had to head back to the pavilion leaving Royals at 60 for 1 wicket. RCB made a mess on the fields, with Kohli dropping Rahane on just 1 at the start.  After Steve Smith came to crease, Royals started building a new partnership and also smashing runs at short intervals. But the glory was short-lived, as Chahal struck once more, getting Buttler in his spell, halting RCB to 104 for 2. Steve Smith (38 out; 31b; 2X4,1X6) along with Rahul Tripathi (34 not out; 23b; 3X4, 1X6) kept scoring when Umesh Yadav missed another chance of RCB’s comeback by dropping Smith near the boundary. Yadav however, made a recovery by catching Smith off Siraj, but by then, Rajasthan only needed 5 more runs to win from 1 over. With 2 balls remaining to score a single run, Tripathi pulled a six over mid-wicket to settle 2 points on their table.
