Punjab got the upper hand in the start of the 1st innings, when they dismissed Bairstow (1 out; 6b), to put the deadly partnership to rest. Warner and Shankar were clearly struggling, just going for singles and doubles. In the end, 10th over SRH stood at 54 with the loss of one wicket. However, the first ball of 11th over, by Ashwin, was smashed by Shankar on long-on, welcoming a long-awaited boundary. Ashwin made his comeback in the fourth ball of the same over, when Shankar (26 out; 27b; 2X4) misjudged a carrom ball by Ashwin and was caught by the keeper. Warner, however, kept putting up runs with at least a boundary every over, and Nabi, responding to his singles and doubles. But in the 14th over, Nabi (12 out; 7b) got run out by Ashwin, brilliantly stopping the ball hit by Warner, at non-strikers end and throwing it back to the nearest wicket, while Nabi was gearing up for a single; SRH 80-3. Warner (70 not out; 62b; 6X4, 1X6) along with Manish Pandey played a few brilliant shots to add up to the target before Pandey (19 out; 15b; 2X4) got caught by Nair trying to hit a short ball by Shami at the very first ball of the 20th over. Hooda (14 not out; 3b; 2X4, 1X6) finished the last three balls of the innings hitting a Yorker for a boundary, another boundary straight down the ground, and a six towards long-off to set the final total of 150 runs with the loss of 4 wickets.
However, in the second innings, KXIPhad a good start, when Chris Gayle smashed the first ball of the third over for a six. But Gayle’s (16 out; 14b; 1X4, 1X6) big shots didn’t last for long, as Rashid Khan picks up his wicket of the very first ball of the next over. This was the big wicket SRH were targeting towards. As Mayank Agarwal walked into the crease, the duo started to build a destructive partnership. The duo kept chasing the score with brilliant strikes, SRH were unable to break the partnership. However, the breakthrough for SRH arrived a little late in the game, as Agarwal (54 out; 43b; 3X4, 3X6) departed off Sharma’s first ball of the 18th over. With new batsmen, David Miller on the crease, SRH seemed to have got some hold of the game. On the last ball of the same over Miller (1 out; 3b) misjudged a knuckleball by Sharma and got caught by Hooda. Mandeep and Rahul were dealing in singles until Mandeep (2 out; 3b) got out by S Kaul when SRH needed 11 runs off 6 balls. Sam Curran (5 not out; 3b) and KL Rahul (71 not out; 53b; 7X4, 1X6) start with doubles and singles, then finally Rahul hitting the ball for a boundary gave KXIP the upper hand with 2 runs to chase from 2 balls. However, the match concluded with David Warner’s misfield that led to Rahul taking 2 runs of the 5th ball of the over.
