IPL 2019 – Match 31: Malinga and Pandya Sets RCB on a Free Fall

Lasith Malinga in the first innings and Hardik Pandya in the next one, seals it for Mumbai Indians. RCB did not quite get a good start in 1st innings losing skipper Virat Kohli (8 out; 9b; 1X4) in the 3rd over leaving Royal Challengers Bangalore at 12-1. Parthiv Patel (28 out; 20b; 4X4, 1X6) came to the rescue by hitting back-to-back boundaries and 1 maximum to put up 40-1 in 5 overs. But in the 7th over Hardik Pandya gets the wicket of Patel, Suryakumar Yadav taking the catch at backward point. AB De Villiers and Moeen Ali kept the scoreboard ticking with occasional boundaries adding 62 runs with the loss of 2 wickets in 9 overs. After the time out, Ali the De Villiers started to build a good partnership scoring most they can in the next few overs. In the 17th over AB De Villiers brings up his 50, and minutes later Mooen Ali also gets his well-deserved half century, marking Royal Challengers Bangalore’s score as 144-2 after 17 overs. But Lasith Malinga tamed the run flow of Bangalore by striking Moeen Ali (50 out; 42b; 1X4, 5X6) just after his 50 marks, Hardik Pandya taking a fair catch at deep mid-wicket. De Villiers smacks another six, but Lasith Malinga takes the wicket of Marcus Stoinis (0 out, 2b) in the last ball of his over. De Villiers (75 out; 51b; 6X4, 4X6) was the one man who was scoring till the last over but was run out on the second ball by Pollard, ending his brilliant performance for the night. But Malinga wasn’t quite over yet with his spells, in the next ball he first takes the wicket of Akshdeep Nath (2 out; 3b); Quinton De Kock struggles but takes a good catch in the second last ball. He gets the wicket of Pawan Negi (0 out; 2b) the exact same way, and De Kock taking the catch this time without any sign of struggle. Umesh Yadav (0 not out; 1b) and Mohammed Siraj (0 not out; 0b) takes 2 runs of the last ball via byes. The final score put up by Royal Challengers Bangalore on board was 171-7 at the end of 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians had quite a blazing start with Quinton De Kock and Captain Rohit Sharma hitting the boundary very often. The duo put out a 70 run partnership in 7 overs but Captain Rohit Sharma (28 out; 19b; 2X4, 2X6) was clean bowled by Moeen Ali in the 1st ball of the 8th over. Moeen Ali however, was really looking good with both batting and bowling, as he took the 2nd wicket of De Kock (40 out; 26; 5X4, 2X6) in the 4th ball of the same over. But Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav started costing Royal Challengers Bangalore more with back-to-back maximums from Kishan first and then from Yadav. But Ishan Kishan (21 out; 9b; 3X6) soon departs, trying to go for another big one, and missing it completely as Patel stumped him, Mumbai Indians at 104-3 after 10.3 overs. Krunal Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav kept the scoreboard ticking with few boundaries, mostly scored by Yadav. In 15 overs Mumbai Indians were 127-3 needing 45 off 30 balls. With desperation to win another game, Royals strikes again, as Yadav (29 out; 23b; 2X4, 1X6) was looking lethal for Mumbai, Chahal puts an end to his strikes at the middle of 15th over. As Hardik Pandya walked on to the crease, Mumbai Indians were back in the game. Krunal Pandya (11 out; 21b; 1X4) however, on the other hand, gets out at the end of 18th over. Pandya (37 not out; 16b; 5X4, 2X6) was unstoppable after that, hitting boundaries and sixes all over the ground, not even letting Pollard strike a ball and taking Mumbai Indians to a fascinating victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore.
