IPL 2019 – Match 33: Sunrisers Hyderabad beat the table top Chennai Super Kings

Sunrisers Hyderabad did a good job at taming Chennai Super Kings with each player contributing their best. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bat first, but only score 1 off the first over. In the 3rd over Shane Watson hit the first boundary of the innings for Hyderabad. Du Plessis and Watson turned the things in their favor in the coming overs, scoring 41 runs off the powerplay. After the powerplay ended the duo kept on hitting boundaries and maximum, and by 9th over they put out 70 runs on the board. However, Shahbaz Nadeem got the much needed breakthrough for Sunrisers Hyderabad at the end of 10th over, as he ceased Watson’s (31 out; 29; 4X4) wicket, knocking the stumps, ending the 79 runs stand between the Watson and Du Plessis. In the next over, Faf Du Plessis (45 out; 31b; 3X4, 3X6) departs, edging the ball by Vijay Shankar as Buttler takes the catch, Chennai Super Kings at 81-2 after 10.2 overs. Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu takes the center stage, Raina taking charge of the situation, went on to hitting occasional boundaries. But Raina’s (13 out; 13; 2X4) time on the crease was short lived as Rashid Khan traps Raina with a LBW, ending his game for the night. Rashid Khan wasn’t quite over yet, as he takes another wicket in the same over, of the new batsman on crease, Kedar Jadhav (1 out; 2b). The fall of wickets became a matter of concern for the Chennai Super Kings, scoring 99, not even making it to 100, in 14 overs, with the loss of 4 costly wickets. In the 15th over Chennai Super Kings lost another wicket of Sam Billings (0 out; 4), bowled by Khaleel and catch taken by Shankar. Ravindra Jadeja (10 not out; 20b) came to bat, with Ambati Rayadu (25 not out; 21b; 2X4) still hanging around the other side. Rayadu hit 2 boundaries, and the duo mostly dealt in singles to keep the score up, ending the innings with 132 runs, with the loss of 5 wickets, after 20 overs.

The second innings, Sunrisers Hyderabad had a good start scoring 10 runs off the 1st over. For Chennai to win the match they needed to take wickets and as early as they can, but the opening partnership of Warner and Bairstow seemed more lethal than ever. David Warner (50 out; 25b; 10X4) seemed unstoppable hitting boundaries every way he can, bringing up his 41st IPL half century, but in the 6th over after hitting a boundary in the very next ball of Chahar trying to go for another boundary he departs, as du Plessis takes the catch. Chennai seemed to be fighting their way back into the game, as Imran Tahir takes the wicket of Kane Williamson (3 out; 5b) in very next over, Sunrisers Hyderabad at 71-2 after 7 overs. After 9 overs, Bairstow started contributing to the chase with boundaries and sixes, while Shankar backed him up with singles. But in the 13th over, Vijay Shankar (7 out; 11) goes down, Imran Tahir again taking the wicket, Sunrisers Hyderabad at 105-3 after 12.2 overs. Jonny Bairstow (61 not out; 44b; 3X4, 3X6) brings up his well-deserved 50 in the 15th over, and kept going until the end. On the other hand Deepak Hooda (13 out; 16b; 1X4) stayed until the scores were level, but after that he too succumbed to in the 17th over by Karn Sharma. However, Jonny Bairstow won the innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad with a final maximum.
