IPL 2019 – Match 34: Delhi Capital looking not so dangerous anymore

Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bat first and the 1st over of the match they conceded 5 runs from Ishant Sharma. But from the next over Rohit Sharma hits the first boundary of the match. In the 4th over, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock charged against the pace of Chris Morris, making 16 out of it, Mumbai Indians at 32-0 after 4 overs. In the last over of powerplay, the duo hit Keemo Paul each a maximum, among which 1 was no ball, which de Kock slapped to stands. At the 1st ball of the 7th over Amit Mishra takes the wicket of skipper Rohit Sharma (30 out, 22b; 3X4, 1X6) clean bowled by Mishra, Mumbai Indian 57-1 after 6.1 overs. Delhi’s spin attacks were chocking the visitors, as Ben Cutting (2 out; 4b) goes down on an LBW by Axar Patel as Mumbai Indians were stranded at 63-2 after 8 overs. In the 10th over Mumbai lose the precious wicket of Quinton de Kock (35 out; 27b; 2X4, 2X6), in a mishap between the two batsmen on the crease de Kock gets run out, Suryakumar Yadav stays back. Spinners were chocking the boundaries, forcing Mumbai to rely on singles. But Krunal Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav started building a slow partnership, with occasional boundaries from Yadav. However, Suryakumar’s (26 out; 27; 2X4) smart shots trying to hit a little wider than the keeper for a boundary, fails to do so, Patel taking a good catch, Mumbai Indians at 104-4 after 15.1 overs. It was a fine show as Hardik Pandya walked up to crease alongside Krunal Pandya. Krunal hits a boundary on 18th over by Keemo Paul, and Hardik following suit with a four and a six. The Pandya brothers kept smacking the ball putting up a 50 runs stand, Hardik Pandya (32 of 15b; 2X4, 3X6) being phenomenal with his flicks and a single helicopter shot, until the mid-20th over as Hardik Pandya goes down, going for a maximum and just hitting the ball straight up and Rishab Pant taking the catch. Krunal (37 not out; 26b; 5X4) hits 2 back-to-back boundaries to end the innings with 168 runs on board for Mumbai Indians, with the loss of 5 wickets after 20 overs.

In the second innings, Delhi Capitals started with a bang. Prithvi Shaw hit 2 back-to-back boundaries of the 1st over of Hardik Pandya and Shikhar Dhawan joined the party in the next over with 2 more boundaries off Rahul Chahar. In the Powerplay alone Delhi Capitals chased down 48 runs looking dangerous yet again. But Mumbai was yet to shine bright, with Rahul Chahar taking the first wicket of the night, as unlucky Shikhar Dhawan (35 out; 22b; 5X4, 1X6) goes for a reverse sweep and the ball hitting pads and gloves reaches the stumps, Delhi Capitals at 49-1 after 6.3 overs. In the 9th over Rahul Chahar scalps the other opening striker of DC, Prithvi Shaw (20 out; 24b; 2x4), as he hits the ball straight in the deep, and Hardik Pandya taking a simple catch, Delhi Capitals 59-2 after 8.3 overs. Mumbai was picking wickets after short interval now, as in the very next over Krunal Pandya clean bowls Colin Munro (3 out; 9b). Rahul Chahar’s spells were not quite over for the night as he came back in the 11th over, he picks his 3rd wicket of the night of the skipper Shreyas Iyer (3 out, 6b), Delhi Capitals at 63-4 after 10.2 overs. Delhi Capitals were finding it hard to hit boundaries let alone take singles for the next few overs. But Mumbai crushed their little hope of success as Rishab Pant (7 out, 11b) goes, clean bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, leaving Delhi Capitals at 76-5, after 14 overs. With pressure building upon the home side, Axar Patel and Chris Morris took matters into their own hands with some hefty blows in 15th and 16th over chasing down 73 of the remaining 24 balls. But Lasith Malinga wasn’t letting this game slip off of Mumbai’s hands and dismisses Chris Morris (11 out; 9b; 1X6) in the last ball of the 17th over. In the next over, another mishap between the batsmen happened and Keemo Paul (0 out; 0b) heads back to the dugout, letting Axar Patel (26 out; 23b; 1X4, 1X6) play his game on the crease. But Patel misses his second chance in the next ball, as he gets bowled by Bumrah, Delhi Capitals at 107-8, after 17 overs. In the 19th over Pollard dropped a catch, but made it up in the next over as Kasigo Rabada (9 out; 8b; 1X6) walks back. Amit Mishra and Ishant Sharma completed the match with 128-9 after 20 over, falling 40 runs short off the victory.
