IPL 2019 – Match 39: Dhoni Puts a Blitzkrieg Performance but RCB Snatched 1 Run victory

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted bowl first, and had a good start. Captain Kohli (9 out; 8b; 2X4), who scored a century in the previous match against Kolkata Knight Riders cruising Royal Challengers Bangalore to a victory, was restricted by Depak Chahar in the 3rd over, Dhoni taking a neat catch behind the stumps. However, AB de Villiers and Parthiv Patel, were taking boundaries every over, De Villiers goes for a big one through mid-off, Du Plessis attempts for a catch, and gets his hands on it, but couldn’t stop it. Bangalore put out 49 runs on board in the powerplay. But in the 7th over, AB De Villiers (25 out; 19b; 3X4, 1X6) goes big again, and Faf Du Plessis taking another attempt, and this time he doesn’t miss it. Dew on the ground was making the game slower for RCB, but Parthiv Patel was slowly building up a good score. However, this slow partnership between Akashdeep Nath and Parthiv Patel soon came to an end as Akashdeep Nath (24 out; 20b; 1X4, 1X6) mistimed a shot on long-on, resulting in Du Plessis taking another nice catch. Parthiv Patel (53 out; 37b; 2X4, 4X6) bring up his half-century in the 16th over, but get out in the next short-pitched ball by Dwayne Bravo as Shane Watson takes the catch at the edge of the circle, as Royal Challengers Bangalore gets 124 on board with the loss of 4 wickets, in 16 overs. Chennai Super Kings didn’t quite get the chance they expected, losing early wickets. In the very first over of the 2nd innings, Shane Watson (5 out; 3b; 1X4) edges a ball by Dale Steyn straight to Marcus Stoinis at 2nd slip. Dale Steyn wasn’t quite over yet, as in the next ball he gets Raina bowled, a brilliant piece of bowling by Steyn, as Suresh Raina (0 out; 1b) seemed baffled, not quite knowing how to hit the ball and missing it, Chennai at 6 with the loss of 2 wickets, after just 1 over. Faf Du Plessis and Ambati Rayadu were clearly struggling to score, Du Plessis hits the ball by Umesh Yadav and it grazes past the stumps, but the bails don’t come off, but Du Plessis (5 out; 15b) departs in the next balls, as he hits a ball high, and De Villiers and Navdeep Saini clashes to take the catch, and De Villiers taking it safely. In the 5th over, Umesh ceased another wicket of Kedar Jadhav (9 out; 9b; 2X4), and De Villiers takes a simple catch at mid-off. These 2 catches by De Villiers put the visitors in trouble losing crucial early wickets, putting up just 28 in the powerplay. As MS Dhoni walked up to the crease, things took a drastic turn in Chennai Super Kings favor. Dhoni Started to build a partnership with Ambati Rayadu (29 out; 29b; 2X4, 1X6), Chahar scalps Rayadu’s wicket in a tidy spell with experience in his home ground, as Chennai Super Kings struggled to chase 79 off 41 balls. Under pressure, Chennai makes a mishap at the grounds, resulting in the run out of Ravindra Jadeja (11 out; 12b), as Dhoni stayed back, CSK at 108-6 after 16.4 overs. Dhoni worked as a one-man-army to put out a blitzkrieg performance, with Dwayne Bravo (5 out; 4b) getting out in the 18th over. Chennai needed 26 off the last over, MS Dhoni (84 not out; 48b; 5X4, 7X6) hits a boundary and 3 sixers leaving just 2 to chase off the last ball, and Umesh Yadav bowls a slower one, Dhoni misses it, and goes for a single, but Parthiv Patel was quick to react, and throw the ball at stumps, to run out Shradul Thakur (0 out; 0b), and ceased a 1 run victory for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
