IPL 2019 – Match 50 CSK Retains at No.1 Spot after Table Top Clash

Delhi Capitals had the desired start they would have wanted, after winning the toss, as from the first 3 overs, Chennai scored 3 runs only, 1 each. At the start of the 4th over, Chennai lost its 1st precious wicket of Shane Watson (0 out; 9b), Jagadeesha Suchith strikes as CSK stood at 7-1 after 4 overs. However, Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina started building a good partnership at a decent striking rate. Chennai Super Kings brings up 50 on board after 9 overs. Faf du Plessis (39 out; 41b; 2X4, 2X6) was just starting to look dangerous, after hitting a couple of maximums, he departs after 83 runs stand between the duo, CSK at 88-2 after 14 overs. Suresh Raina (59 out; 37b; 8X4, 1X6) completes his half century in the 15th over, but at the end of the same over, Jadeesha Suchith strikes for the 2nd time, as Raina heads back, CSK 102 after 15 overs, with the loss of 3 wickets. Ravindra Jadeja’s (25 out; 10b; 2X4, 2X6) cameo along with captain MS Dhoni, put some pressure back on the visitors. But Jaddu soon succumbed to Chris Morris’s attacks, as Morris himself took an excellent catch, Chennai at 158-4 after 19 overs. Mahendra Singh Dhoni (44 not out; 22b; 4X4, 3X6) was making sure to put a good defending total on board and ended the last over of Trent Boult by scoring 21 runs. Chennai Super Kings put out 179 runs on board after 20 overs, with the loss of 4 wickets.

Chennai had a great start at the 2nd innings, as after hitting just one boundary, Prithvi Shaw (4 out; 5b; 1X4) departs in the very first over of Deepak Chahar, Delhi Capitals stood at 8-1 after 1 over. Shreyas Iyer opened his strikes with a boundary off the very first ball he aced, and along with Shikhar Dhawan, the duo was at good position to take away the game from the hosts scoring 50 from 5 overs. But Shikhar Dhawan (19 out; 13b; 1X4, 1X6) soon succumbed to Harbhajan Singh’s attacks, Delhi at 59-2 after 6 overs. Rishab Pant (5 out; 3b; 1X4) came to bat, and just after hitting a boundary departs in Imran Tahir’s over, as he takes his 1st wicket. Ravindra Jadeja takes another wicket in the 8th over, as Colin Ingram (1 out; 5b) walks back, Delhi Capitals struggling at 67-4 after 8 overs. However, Imran Tahir was far from over, as he scalps both Axar Patel (9 out; 9b; 1X4) and Sherfane Rutherford’s (2 out; 4b) wicket in the 11th over, DC at 86-6 after 11 overs. Along with Tahir, Ravindra Jadeja was also making most of his bowling, as he also took the wickets of Chris Morris (0 out; 1b) and skipper Shreyas Iyer (44 out; 31b; 4X4, 1X6) in the 12th over, MS Dhoni stumping both the batsmen with sheer brilliance, Delhi severely struggling to keep their wickets with 85 on board with the loss of 8 wickets. Jagadeesha Suchith (6 out; 15b) gets run out by Shane Watson in the 15th over. The last wicket of Amit Mishra was scalped by none other than Imran Tahir, taking 4 wickets for the night and ending Delhi Capitals journey at 99 all out, as Chennai Super Kings retained their top position at the table, defeating DC by a huge margin of 80 runs.
