IPL 2019 – Match 56 Mumbai crushed KKR’s Play-off Hope

Kolkata Knight Riders started their innings with the hope of qualifying for the Play-offs, as they were tallying at the same points with Sunrisers Hyderabad, just KKR lagging behind at the net run rate. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians were eyeing towards finishing at the top of the table for better chances. After winning the toss, Mumbai Indians opted to bowl first, but openers Subhman Gill and Chris Lynn were building a slow partnership, with Lynn taking the lead as they scored 49 in the powerplay. However, Subhman Gill (9 out; 16b) was not at his best as he succumbed to Hardik Pandya’s attack at the start of 7 over, KKR 49-1 after 6.1 overs. Robin Uthappa and Chris Lynn were going strong until, in the 8th over Hardik Pandya picks another wicket, as Chris Lynn (41 out; 29b; 2X4, 4X6) heads back to the dugout, KKR 56-2 after 8.2 overs. Kolkata was struggling to get a momentum, as Captain Dinesh Karthik (3 out; 9b) fails to create an impact, as he departs in the 12th over, as Lasith Malinga strikes for the first time. Andre Russell (0 out; 1b) was a no show as well, as he goes down in the very next ball, Kolkata at 75-4 after 13 overs. Malinga takes his 3rd wicket in the 17th over, as Nitish Rana (26 out; 13b, 3X6) walks back failing to contribute much, as KKR stood at 120-5 after 17.2 overs. Robin Uthappa (40 out; 47b; 1X4, 3X6) did not have much support from his partners, except for Lynn, but still batted till end, until he too departs at the end of 20th over, and Rinku Singh (4 out; 6b) also gets out in the very last ball of the innings as Kolkata Knight Riders set a target of 133 on board at the end of 20th over, with the loss of 7 wickets.

Mumbai Indians started with a slow but steady partnership of openers, Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma. De Kock fired some early shots taking Mumbai closer to the low target set by KKR. However, Quinton de Kock (30 out; 23b; 1X4, 3X6) got out at the start of 7th over, Mumbai Indians at 46-1 after 6.1 overs. After de Kock’s wicket Kolkata was unable to stop the scoring or take wickets. Rohit Sharma working as an anchor for his team, and Suryakumar Yadav smashing boundaries and sixes at every alter. Rohit Sharma brings up his 50 in the 15th over. Mumbai Indians easily chased down the target, as Suryakumar Yadav ended the match with a smart uppercut for a maximum, with 23 balls to spare, as Mumbai hailed the top position, and KKR just missing the qualifiers.
