IPL 7 to be shifted out of India over security concerns

The seventh edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 7) is all set to move out of India due to the General Elections. Most likely, it will be held in South Africa.

On Friday, India's Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said it was difficult to provide "adequate security" to hold IPL matches in India due to the elections in April and May.

"IPL will not be held in India. Due to General Elections, it will be difficult to provide adequate security to IPL matches," Shinde told "IBN7" TV news channel.

Last week, during the IPL 7 Players' Auction, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials had said South Africa was the first choice if the tournament was not played in India.

BCCI is yet to finalise the dates for the tournament. In 2009 too, the IPL was shifted to South Africa due to the General Elections.
