Japan Open: P.V. Sindhu lost while Srikanth, Prannoy & Jayaram entered the quarterfinals

It has been reported that eighth seed P.V. Sindhu lost her 2nd round tie while K. Srikanth, H.S. Prannoy and Ajay Jayaram moved forward to the quarterfinals of the $200,000 Japan Open Super Series at Tokyo on Thursday.

In fact, Sindhu had a poor encounter with qualifier Akane Yamaguchi of Japan as she was hammered in straight games in 32 minutes at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. The World No.145 crushed Sindhu by 21-6, 21-17 to march into the women's singles quarterfinals.

On the other side, Jayaram had a hard 2nd round men's singles clash against local qualifier Yuichi Ikeda. But eventually he won in three games in a 55 minute battle. The Mumbai lad won by 21-13, 11-21, 21-18 in his first ever match against Ikeda.

Moreover, Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold champion K. Srikanth entered the last eight comfortably too by overcoming another local qualifier Kazuteru Kozai by 21-12, 21-16 in 32 minutes in their first ever encounter. He will lock horns with seventh seed and World No.5 Kenichi Tago of Japan next in their first ever meet.

In addition, Youth Olympics silver medalist Prannoy caused a distress by routing World No.6 Danish shuttler Jan O Jorgensen in 3 hard-hitting games. The Kerala shuttler got victory by 21-14, 13-21, 21-17 in 53 minutes to make his place in the last eight.

Meanwhile, the Indian men's doubles action concluded with the defeat of Manu Attri & B. Sumeeth Reddy, who lost to Xiaolong Liu & Zihan Qiu of China. The fourth-seeded Chinese won by 21-17, 21-16 in 36 minutes in the 2nd round.
