Kick-Starting the Journey with a Victory

The heroics played on field by the French squad was commendable as the team led by Amandine Henry cruised straight to their first victory of the season. FIFA Women’s World Cup commenced on 7th June with a sell-out crowd of 45,261 people filled the gallery watching the opening clash between the hosts France and visitors South Korea at Parc des Princes in Paris. The French team seemed confident enough from the start to take their team further in the tournament, and they left no stones unturned in their debuting game of the season. With early attacks, French women were putting on a feisty start and in 9th minute their efforts paid off when attacking mid-fielder Eugenie Lee Sommer hammered the ball passed by captain Henry over the Kim Minjung into the net to score the first goal of FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019. France’s heroics were stunning the spectator when in the 23rd minute Mbock Bathy attempted on an overhead kick, unfortunately missing the goal. The star player of the night, Windie Renard scored her first goal at the 35th minute hit a header to the bottom-left corner of the goal as France doubled their lead.

Renard was on fire, as she scored her 2nd one with another header off a corner kick, using her height to shoot the ball straight into the top-left corner of the post. South Korea had to counter the 3-goals lead in order to register their first win, but they were unable to stop the French attacks let alone diminish the lead set by the French players in the first half of the game. Li Mina of South Korea gave a head-to-head fight at the 73rd minute and almost scored a goal, but the ball went wide; this was by far the most vicious attack done South Korea which was not effective enough on France. At 85th minute Captain Amandine Henry scored the fourth and final goal which left the stadium as well as South Korean keeper Kim Minjung baffled as France commenced with a strong start of the tournament with a 4-0 win against South Korea.
