This is yet another season in IPL where DD seems to have lost the plot. This time, even Gautam Gambhir’s inspired captaincy could not change the fate of the Delhi outfit. In spite of limiting the KXIP team to 143 runs in 20 overs, DD failed to capitalize and eventually ended up losing the match by four runs. Playing a team without Chris Gayle, several batsmen of KXIP had started but none of them could capitalize. Only KL Rahul, Karun Nair and Mayank Agarwal tried to play with some aggression. Yuvraj Singh failed again, scoring only 14 runs and playing unnecessary dots in the middle. English bowler Liam Plunkett bowled superbly to take three wickets, ably supported by young Avesh Khan and New Zealand star Trent Boult.
Although DD lost the match, young debutant Prithvi Shaw played some cracking shots. Ankit Rajpoot stole the show with his accurate bowling and Andrew Tye bowled his off cutters and slowers to perfection. In the very last over, Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman ensured that KXIP did not miss this match. Credit goes to Shreyas Iyer for such a fine knock of 57 runs. DD now needs a miracle to reach the playoffs.
