Lakshya, Ashmita Claims Singles Title At Tata Open

Upcoming star shuttlers Lakshya Sen and Ashmita Chaliha claimed the singles title at the Tata Open India International Challenger. Lakshya Sen played a clinical game to settle for the World Juniors final loss against the same Thai opponent Kunlavat Vitidsarn and outclassed him in straight games 21-15, 21-10 in 35 minutes. Sen was in sublime form and in complete command against his opponent. According to Prakash Padukone, Sen’s coach, the 17 year old has the potential to go the distance in the future. On the other hand, Ashmita Chaliha lifted her maiden international crown by getting the better of Vrushali Gummadi in straight games 21-16, 21-13. The match lasted only half an hour and the left handed Ashmita’s speed, accuracy and energy was too much for the eighth seeded Vrushali to handle. Both the matches were one sided affairs with no fightback from their opponents.
