Premier league giants Liverpool received a big boost as the completed the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City on a long term contract. Local media disclosed, that the Swiss forward joined the club after the Reds paid off his £13.75 million release clause on a 5-year contact.
The 26-year old Swiss international played all of his country’s games at this year’s World Cup and has scored 21 goals from 74 games for his country till now. “It’s a huge club with big history, big players and a fantastic coach. So, I am really glad and happy to be here,” he said on the club’s website.
Xherdan began his career with FC Basel moving to Bayern Munich in 2012 and spent 2 and half-years with the Bundesliga giants. The talented forward and playmaker was a part of the Champions League winning Bayern side of 2013 apart from winning league titles in Switzerland and Germany.
Jürgen Klopp believes that he can make a big difference to the squad and will be a great asset, judging by his performance and confidence in the World Cup. This is the third new signing for Liverpool this season having bagged AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho and Naby Keita from RB Leipzig already.
