Madrid Go 319 Minutes Without Scoring a Goal

Real Madrid have gone without scoring a goal in three consecutive matches for the first time in 11 years. Madrid travelled to Russia for their mid-week UCL clash against CSKA Moscow. To everyone’s surprise, Madrid conceded a goal in the 2nd minute of the match following a bizarre mistake from Toni Kroos who ended up assisting Vlasic. Moscow held on for the rest of the game which saw 26shots from the men in white, only four of which were on target. However, they did manage to hit the woodwork thrice but could not break down the Moscow defence. Akinfeev, one of the protagonists of Russia’s World Cup success, saw red in the 96th minute of the game. CSKA won the game by a 1-0 score line even though Los Blancos enjoyed 73% of the possession, playing 776 passes between them.

Juventus played Young Boys at home without their star man Ronaldo, who was suspended owing to a straight red card in the previous match. However, their Argentine star, Paolo Dybala, stepped up when his team needed him the most. He went on to score a hat trick, handing Juve a 3-0 win. He became the 4thJuventus player to score a UCL hat trick. David Silva’s late goal away from home gave City all three points after Hoffenheim opened the scoring in the 1st minute of the match. Aguero equalised in the 7th minute before Silva won it for the Citizens with three minutes to spare. Bayern are now without a win in their last two outings after they drew Ajax 1-1 at home.

Lyon came from behind to draw against Shakhtar 2-2. Roma on the other hand won 5-0 against Plzen. Dzeko scored a hat trick while Cengiz Under added the fourth. Justin Kluivert made it 5-0 scoring his first Champions League goal. Manchester United however have been having a torrid run of form, in what can be called their worst start of the season in years now. Playing Valencia at home, United looked rather unimpressive while Valencia enjoyed the clearer of the chances. The match ended 0-0 but could have easily gone in favour of the Spanish side. Benfica played AEK Athens in their UCL fixture. The Portuguese side took a 2-0 lead only to find themselves reduced to 10 men. Athens almost pulled off a stunning comeback but Alfa Semedo’s 74th minute strike handed Benficaa 3-2 victory.
