Manchester United has gained an easy victory of 2-1 against Arsenal during the English Premier League on Saturday. The Gunners were left astonished with an early goal from Robin van Persie who couldn’t attack as they were trying to equalize United in terms of goal scoring.
Meanwhile, Vito Mannone lived up to the expectations by saving face for Arsenal time and again. Wayne Rooney too added to the delay by going much wider with a penalty. Santi Cazorla did manage to score but it was high time that they were back in the game again. In fact, that goal ended up as the biggest consolation for them.
Alex Ferguson must have been the most relieved man after going through the kind of performance they have put on in the last weekend. It was sheer luck as well for United to take an overall lead in the points tally by a single point. Also, Chelsea and Manchester City have drawn both their matches that added to United’s cause to a further extent. Tottenham had to face humiliation after going down to Wigan in front of home crowd.
United’s defense is a case of concern before the match, but came up really good during their match against The Gunners that will uphold the decisions of Ferguson. It was a perfect chemistry between Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand as well that proved to be crucial for United’s triumph. It was a treat to watch their full-backs in Patrice Evra and Rafael da Silva in full swing by playing their parts in a perfect manner.
Arsenal had to suffer because of no proper defense that they can boast of. Arsene Wenger was left clueless as he chose Cazorla to be in the middle without planning for the alternatives. The Spaniard to adapt to any position gives enough options to Wenger who chose him ahead of Olivier Giroud to stay behind.
During their match against United, it was The Gunners that exposed its weaknesses without getting along as a team. It was even then when Lukas Podolski was left before Santos, but to no avail. Cazorla has been flawless in approaching the ball well with precise crossings all the way.
After considering this peculiar situation, it would have been a good strategy from Wenger if only he benched Podolski. This would have helped in pushing Cazorla up with Theo Walcott being given the charge in the right. Rafael and Evra would have eased up themselves with this kind of smart strategy. The duo would have played with United’s defense instead of ending up as a solution to their opponents’ attack.
Relying heaving upon high-quality midfielders, it should have been easy for Arsenal to score a sizeable victory against formidable sides such as United as well. However, this is not the case as it could be clearly seen that they couldn’t muster enough attack in reply to United’s. Wenger didn’t manage to play Podolski as a striker that cost them the match.
Meanwhile, it is Chelsea that finds itself involved in a frankly ludicrous race row involving a referee, who, it is claimed, called John Obi Mikel “a monkey” in the bad-tempered League Cup defeat to United.
