Mary Kom scripted history after winning the gold medal for the record sixth time after defeating Hanna Okhota in the 48kg category. Mary won the bout via 5-0 unanimous decision, her second title in front of home crowd after 2006 win in New Delhi. On the other hand, Sonia Chahal put up a brave fight but went down to German opponent Gabriele in the 57kg category final. She settled for silver, a great accomplishment for the 21 year old.
