Indians players are at an all-time high, making our country stand out at an international level winning several accolades with their spectacular talents. In the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship, both of the Indian representative teams in the men’s and women’s category dominated the contest to cease the title.
The Indian men’s team already being crowned last year, was determined enough to defend their champions status, but the English men’s were far from letting it slip out of their hands. Thus, England men’s started the match on high note, with Thomas Jarvis and Samuel Walker taking a tactful lead. At first, Jarvis throttled Sharath Kamal by taking the initial lead, and then Walker with a clever strike over Sathiyan Gnanasekaran to double the lead. With 2 points down and on the brink of losing their champions tag, Sathiyan came back eventually to tackle an even fiercer Walker. Along with birthday boy, Harmeet Desai, India was finally looking to settle the deal despite England’s ruthless attempts, and at the end with 3-2 score India defended on to the title.
On the other hand, Indian women’s team were never close to such glory, but their campaign was surely promising one. In a baffling contest Indian women’s eased past the Singapore women’s to cease a dominating maiden victory of 3-0 to clench on to the title for the first time. After 8-times defending the title, Singapore came crashing down to a much more improved Indian team that dethroned them in a near impossible gameplay. It was a win-win situation, for both the counterparts representing our nation on a bigger platform, when the men’s stumbled at first but eventually came back stronger than ever, while the women’s left no stones unturned to prove their worth as equals.
