David Villa and Lionel Messi together defeated Rayo Vallecano by 3-1 goals at Madrid, Spain. They have saved 13 points thus reaching the top position of La Liga. Xavi and Carles Puyol could not play the game due to injury and Victor Valdes was suspended, still Villa and Messi proved themselves to be the best performers in the team.
Villa and Messi won by 4-0 goals against AC Milan on Tuesday proving themselves as top performers. This improved their performances a lot after losing 3 matches out of 4 games in the previous matches.
Messi lost his scoring opportunity after the first six minutes but later on his performance improved rapidly and resulted in the victory of his team. In spite of replacement of Dani Alves, Barca’s performance was not disturbed. They led the match after 25 minutes. Messi recovered from his previous mistakes magnificently by breaking the Rayo defence and playing with Villa taking the top scoring position in his team. This was his 14th goal of this season. Villa kicked the ball forward which was immediately taken by Messi and hit the 2nd goal scoring for this 18th league match. Villa could have scored three goals before the half time but the ball missed the goal in spite of his efforts. Fabregas' pass did not work and Alves was unfortunate enough to put his effort in the 2nd half of the game. All the spectators were waiting for the third goal which arrived soon with Messi and Villa’s combined efforts making them the World Player this year. They had a complete control over the ball. This helped them to kick it away from the last offender resulting in that historic goal. On the other side, Rayo got a hostile attitude from Raul Tamudo as the game proceeded by 20 minutes from start.
Anyway, Villa thinks that the Catalans were never in danger due to the previous 3 defeats. By taking decisions together, both Villa and Messi need to continue the winnings to stay at the top. In another game, Zaragaoza lost by 4-0 at Sevilla . Granada scored 4 points with 1-1 draw against Levante. With this Granada cleared themselves from the bottom three.
