Pharaohs thirsty for the big game

In less than three weeks, Egypt will make history, by appearing after 28 long years in the world’s most prestigious football tournament. The country never managed to fulfil expectations in its past appearances, losing two and drawing two matches. Countries like Iceland and Morocco are also going to make unusual appearances this year, but Egypt has stole the limelight for the time being, thanks to Mohammad Salah.

The Egyptian King, as he is being referred to by the media has been phenomenal in the Premier League. Quite undoubtedly, this world stage is going to be an opportunity for Salah to showcase his abilities and skills. If he manages to keep up his spectacular form, and gets some aid from his teammates, the Egyptians can also begin to dream of going past the knockout stage.

However, at this point of time, there is a black cloud hanging over the team. Courtesy to the UCL final between Liverpool and Real Madrid, Salah badly injured his shoulder during a controversial tackle involving Ramos. Although, the Egyptian Football Association is quite hopeful that he will recover in time, there are quite a number of reports suggesting that the injury is serious. This is a big blow for the Egyptians as this followed right after their major midfielder Mohammed Eleny injured himself in the Premier League match between Arsenal and West Ham. Luckily, he has recovered rapidly and has also bagged the UEFA Europa League Player of the week award last month.

With such heavyweights in their team this year, it is no wonder that the country of more than 9 crore people are rooting strongly for their team. Wish you all the best, Pharaohs!
