Premier League Glory Fades as Ban Tension Looms Over

Manchester City retained their English Premier League title on Sunday after defeating Brighton on 12th May by 4-1 goals, and thus taking a 1-point lead over Liverpool who defeated Wolves with 2-0 on the same day, but just missed out on the title. However, even before the excitement of winning the title settled down Manchester City yet again makes headline but for all the wrong reasons. Man City has been recommended by European football’s financial leaders to be barred from Champion’s League. Apparently, UEFA and European Football’s financial body was jointly conducting an investigation after allegation by a German magazine surfaced of the club breaking Financial Fair Play rules. According to reports, members of investigatory board met two week ago to analyse the clubs that are been suspected of breaking cost-control regulations. However, it is still unclear, whether the ban imposed on Manchester City will be enforced on next season or on 2020-21 season. Manchester City still has a legal right to appeal for such a ban in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The team has denied any financial irregularities as they also mentioned to have welcomed UEFA investigations board on March with the intention to clear their names off. Previously the club was fined in 2014 with 60 million euros as punishment and to arrive at a settlement with the UEFA subjected to earlier breach of spending rules.
