PV Sindhu Crowned with Gold

Sunday evening, India embarked into a new light of hope and happiness, as representing India, Hyderbadi-warrior, PV Sindhu kept the audiences seated in an enchanting duel with Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara, and at last, clinching the much awaited Gold, in the BWF World Championships. A dream that Sindhu started dreaming as a little girl, became a familiar dream to an entire nation, as she went on to achieve them one at a time. An inspiration for generations to come, PV Sindhu gave away a fierce competition, and dedicated her stunning achievement to her mother, as a souvenir on P Vijaya’s Birthday

Despite having a family legacy of Volleyball, from both of her parents, her keen interest in Badminton, drove her to improve her skills from an early age of 8-years. Throughout the years, her immense dedication towards the game was visible at national and international tournaments, when she rammed through World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Commonwealth Youth Games, South Asian Games and many more.

She has earned; 1 gold medal, 2 Bronze medals in Asian Junior Championships, 1 Gold in Commonwealth Youth Championships, 1 Gold and 1 Silver medal in South Asian Games and 1 Gold, Silver and Bronze medal each, in Commonwealth Games in 3 seasons; to her name. In BWF World Championships singles, she had recorded 2 Silvers and 2 bronze, but still fell short of a hard-earned Gold.

She inched closer for the first time in the BWF World Championships, in 2017, and with an enigmatic duel with Nozomi Okuhara, she attracted the crowd of an entire nation. However, with a gut-wrenching loss, she had to settle for a silver. She came back in the next season with the same consistency, acquiring Silver once more, missing out on Gold

It was rare to see an Indian’s dominance that, she bestowed in the 2019 BWF World Championships, against the same rival, Nozomi Okuhara. Miles away in India, a Sunday evening was restored with cheers and chants of Sindhu’s name, as Sindhu, making no mistakes, seized the Gold medal after a 38-minute savage hitting by the two women’s and wrapped up the game with 21-7, 21-7. In a world still dominated by men, PV Sindhu, performed with the same zeal, and there should be no disagreement, if PV Sindhu is considered as India’s greatest all-time athlete for becoming India’s first ever badminton World Champion, as she continues to inspire many.
